Stack compression testing examines how packaging materials and stacking structures perform under vertical compressive pressure over time. As modern logistics demand longer shipping distances and higher warehouse stacks, verifying packaging integrity under realistic load conditions has become essential for product safety.
Understanding Stack Compression Testing
The stack compression test evaluates the protective performance of a product under sustained vertical compressive pressure. The severity of the test depends on three key parameters: the pressure value, the loading rate, and the stacking time. It is primarily used to assess the reliability and durability of packaging materials and stacking structures used during transportation and storage.
Storage duration and environmental conditions such as temperature and humidity directly affect the compressive strength of cardboard boxes. Over time, cardboard boxes experience creep, leading to a gradual decline in strength. Excessive load can cause significant deformation, forcing the contents to bear direct external pressure and potentially sustaining damage.

Industry Applications
Stack compression testing serves multiple industries where packaged goods must survive extended storage and transportation cycles:
- Logistics and warehousing: verifying that palletized goods maintain structural integrity during multi-tier stacking in distribution centers.
- Consumer goods packaging: ensuring that retail product cartons withstand compression loads without crushing or deforming on store shelves.
- Industrial transport: validating that large transport packages survive the combined effects of static loads, vibration, and temperature fluctuations during long-distance shipping.

Test Types
GRGTEST offers four categories of stack compression tests, each simulating different storage and transport scenarios:
Static stacking test
Packages stacked to a specified height for a fixed duration without additional vibration or shock, checking for stack collapse and packaging damage.
Dynamic stacking test
Packages stacked to a specified height while simulating transportation vibrations and shocks.
Vibration test
Applying vibrations of different frequencies and intensities to stacked goods, divided into low-frequency and high-frequency tests.
Temperature test
Stacking packages at controlled ambient temperatures to assess material changes at different thermal conditions.
