Bisphenol F is a common alternative to bisphenol A (BPA) and is widely used in food can coatings, epoxy adhesives, electronic packaging materials, thermal paper, automotive structural adhesives, and other products. |
Background
BPF was included alongside n-hexane and bisphenol AF in the 34th SVHC public consultation held in September 2025. However, in the official updated SVHC candidate list released by ECHA in February 2026, n-hexane and BPAF were successfully included, whereas BPF's proposal was withdrawn prior to the consultation due to controversies surrounding its supporting evidence. In this instance, ECHA has重启 the SVHC inclusion procedure for BPF based on its original hazard classification (reproductive toxicity), signaling its commitment to addressing previous data gaps through supplementary and refined analyses. Given the current regulatory trajectory, the probability that bisphenol F will be formally added to the SVHC candidate list in 2027 has significantly increased.
SVHCbusiness accountability
ECHA emphasizes that enterprises must comply with regulatory requirements and fulfill the obligations prescribed by such regulations. For example, if the content of SVHC substances in a product exceeds 0.1% (w/w), pursuant to the requirements of the Waste Framework Directive (WFD), enterprises shall, as of 5 January 2021, submit an SCIP notification; such SCIP notification information will be published on the ECHA official website. Under the REACH Regulation, if the content of SVHC substances in a product exceeds 0.1% (w/w) and the annual volume of such substances in the product exceeds 1 ton, the manufacturer or exporter shall submit a notification to ECHA; if the content of SVHC substances in the product exceeds 0.1% (w/w), the enterprise shall also fulfill its information-sharing obligations.
