What is Optocouple?

Optocouple, referred to as OC, with light as the medium to realize the electrical signal transmission device, generally composed of the LED of the luminous end and the light sensitive semiconductor tube or the resistance. Because of its advantages of small size, good insulation and strong anti-interference ability, it is widely used in various circuits.

In the automotive field, the optical coupling is also widely used in the automotive electrical and electronic system, so the optical coupling must meet the reliability requirements of the vehicle regulations to enter the supplier chain of the automobile oEMS. In other words, the vehicle optical coupling must meet the industry standard AEC-Q verification requirements.

 

Vehicle gauge verification standard for optical coupling

In terms of structure, optical coupling has both forward working LED (light emitting) devices and reverse working photosensitive semiconductor tube (light), not strictly discrete semiconductor devices, AEC-Q104 first proposed the concept of multi-chip module (MCM), but it also clearly stated that it does not apply to components containing AEC-Q102 related LED category.

 

At the end of 2022, the newly released AEC-Q102-003 explicitly took optical coupling as one of the OE-MCM types, and officially confirmed that the standard standard for optical coupling is AEC-Q102-003.

About the AEC-Q102-003

AEC-Q102-003 is a supplement to AEC-Q102 and is mainly applicable to multichip modules containing optoelectronic devices, namely OE-MCM.

AEC-Q102-003 standard lists 6 applicable components, such as PD-Laser, IC controlled RGB, all belong to this standard category. The vehicle specification verification of the OE-MCM shall cover the failure models of each of its device subsets, the failure modes resulting from the interaction between the devices. Its certification plan must include the vehicle specification testing of all device subsets, combining the test plan and additional projects of each device subset into a super plan (Superset of Tests).

 

The vehicle gauge verification of optical coupling must take into account both positive LED and anti-partial optical semiconductor tube. Make compatible processing for Group A to Group G of two devices according to AEC-Q102-003, and output the verification plan required by the standard.
