On February 4, 2026, the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) officially added n-hexane and 4,4 '-[2,2,2-trifluoro-1-(trifluoromethyl)ethylene]bisphenol (BPAF) along with its salts to the List of Substances of Very High Concern (SVHC) candidates. This brings the total number of SVHC candidate substances to 253. Meanwhile, 4,4' -dihydroxybiphenyl (bisphenol F, BPF), which was concurrently evaluated alongside these two substances, has been withdrawn and was not included in the SVHC candidate list. Additionally, resorcinol, which had never been included in the official list, remains in the "pending determination" status.

SVHC business accountability
ECHA emphasizes that enterprises must comply with regulatory requirements and fulfill obligations stipulated by legislation. For instance, if the content of SVHC substances in products exceeds 0.1% (w/w), according to the Waste Framework Directive (WFD), companies are required to submit a Scientific Communication of Interest (SCIP) notification starting from January 5, 2021. The SCIP notification information will be published on the ECHA official website. Under REACH regulations, if the content of SVHC substances in products exceeds 0.1% (w/w) and the substance concentration in products surpasses 1 ton/year, manufacturers or exporters must notify ECHA. Products containing SVHC substances at concentrations exceeding 0.1% (w/w) are subject to information reporting obligations.
