Service Background
Azo compounds are a class of organic compounds with an azo group (-N=N-) connecting two aromatic groups. They are the most numerous type in the synthesis of dyes and are used for dyeing and printing a variety of natural and synthetic fibers. Many azo compounds have carcinogenic effects, such as Butter Yellow, which was once used for coloring margarine and can induce liver cancer, and is therefore prohibited; Methyl Red, used as an indicator, can cause bladder and breast tumors. Some azo compounds are not carcinogenic, but their toxicity is similar to that of nitro compounds and aromatic amines.
