Corrosive Gas Testing

Corrosive Gas Testing
Details:
Gas corrosion testing is used to determine the adaptability of products to work and store in atmospheric environments, especially for contact and connection components.
The gas corrosion test can simulate various corrosive gases such as nitrogen dioxide, sulfur dioxide, hydrogen sulfide, chlorine gas, etc. that exist in the atmosphere. It can conduct single or multiple mixed gas corrosion tests to determine the corrosion resistance of electrical and electronic product components, equipment, and materials.

Service Background

The atmospheric environment encompasses temperature, humidity, oxygen, gas pollutants, and other corrosive elements and factors. Under specific conditions, these gases can react with water molecules adsorbed on metal surfaces, forming compounds that notably corrode electronic components, entire machines, and materials, particularly contacts and connectors, thereby severely affecting their electrical performance and reliability. The rigor of gas corrosion testing is determined by the type of corrosive gas and its exposure duration. By simulating various corrosive gases found in the atmosphere and subjecting materials or products to accelerated corrosion in a controlled environment of specific temperature and relative humidity, it is possible to replicate the extent of damage they would experience over a certain period, thus evaluating their resistance to atmospheric corrosion.

Q&A

Q: What gases do gas corrosion tests refer to? What is the purpose of the experiment?

A: The gas corrosion testing can simulate various corrosive gases, including NO2, SO2, CO2, H2S, and Cl2, found in the atmosphere. It facilitates single or multiple mixed gas corrosion tests, accelerates the corrosion of materials or products under specific temperature and relative humidity conditions, replicates the extent of damage materials or products experience over a set period, and evaluates the quality of similar protective layer processes. Additionally, it assesses the corrosion resistance of protective layers for components, electronic parts, metal materials, electrical and electronic products, as well as industrial products in mixed gases.
